Nepalese financial system, after the liberalization process of 1990s, has observed rapid growth. There has been huge development in the Nepalese financial market not only in terms of quantity but also in quality. The rise in number of banks and financial institutions over these two decades denotes the diversification, which has made possible for the financial market to be accessible to wider population, rapidly. Today, Nepalese banking sector is recognized as a luring sector offering opportunities. Rise in tendency of students desiring to develop their career as bankers is a result of opportunity created by the rise in number and size of players in the financial market. There are several training institutes and universities offering banking courses. However, the market has insufficient academic textbooks, reading materials, journals and references tailored for Nepalese banking. Keeping this in our minds, we authors have put together our effort to reduce to some extent, the deficit, as we feel, faced by the highly growing Nepalese financial market.
Through this book we have brought together the articles and information pieces on Nepalese banking, which remained scattered and unpublished. It also covers articles and information, which have already been published in various books and journals. The book aims to cater the needs of students and Nepalese bankers who are interested in enhancing their understanding on Nepalese banking. This book will be a source of very useful material for the students who want to develop their career in the banking sector. Moreover, this book aims to reduce student’s burden for gathering various materials from several books, as it is a compilation of references of various books on banking.
The book contents some other important features as follows:
• Focus on theoretical and practical aspects of Nepalese Banking. Forms and format used in real scenario are also incorporated.
• Major functional areas of banking are covered as; deposit management, credit management, treasury management etc.
• Credit related issues are specially elaborated with examples and case for credit appraisal.

• Comprehensive list of abbreviations and terminologies used in banking are collected and presented in the separate heading.
We authors have been involved in teaching, participating and conducting various training programs on banking since a long time. Our knowledge and experience in this field is the main source for the development of this book. This book, is therefore intended for all those students, teachers, practitioners and other researchers interested in understanding Nepalese banking. Banking principles, practices and some cases have been given appropriately in the book. We hope our effort through this book will help to contribute further, the development of Nepalese banking.
