This book was written with the goal of promoting English medium education within Nepal's schools. It is intended for use by teachers of any level to learn how English can be used within the specific context of their day-to-day interactions. This includes students, other teachers, parents, the head teacher, and members of the community. Our hope is that it can also be used by class 10 students in preparation for their SLC exams. When working through exercises, they should imagine themselves as teachers to answer questions from that point of view. Our aim is for this book to help build overall confidence in using English around the school. Included are focus points on vocabulary, verbs, pronunciation, conjunctions, grammar and conversational phrases. Each chapter follows the same format : an example dialogue in English on the first page, Nepali translation on back, then language focus points followed by questions to test comprehension with their answers provided underneath.
The book provides a wide range of topics and situations to give teachers a sense of how the language can be used amongst various groups of people. Teachers, students and interested others can learn through reading and listening how to think and speak in English. Enabling teachers to make better and more consistent use of English in their classrooms will allow students to gain more comfort with it through everyday use.
