This book has been prepared in accordance with new syllabus prescribed by Higher Secondary Education Board for management students of 10 + 2 level.
To make this book effective from practical as well as theoretical point of view, an attempt has been made to provide a thorough explanation of many technical terms of business activities for their proper use. One of the main features of this book is the attention given to motivating the concepts under discussion. Keeping in mind as per the requirement of student in the field of business management the book has been written in simple and lucid manner. Each concept has been explained clearly in simple manner, keeping the explanation as simple as possible in brief. The authors also believe that it will help students and other interested readers in learning the topics easily and quickly.
In this book an attempt have been made in solving most of the business mathematics problem using simple but different methods than the conventional methods found in textbooks. For instance, we have introduced modified Sarrus rule for expanding 3 × 3 order determinants. Similarly, in the ratio and proportion chapter and mathematics of finance we have introduced some new methods to explain the topics in simple and lucid manner.
Apart from these, we have given a list of learning objectives in each chapter so that the student can view the goal of the chapter at a glance. Besides that we have taken some practical measures as well. For instance, the answers of the problems have been given immediately after the exercise to make the task of answer checking a bit easier. Different types of practical problems relating to the business management has been made clear to the students, resulting in higher level of confidence. The authors hope that using some new but simple techniques in solving the problems and learning objectives given in the beginning of the chapter will make the learning of business mathematics systematic and simple. The text is supported by adequate number of examples and solved exercises. Moderate number of exercises have been given at the end of each chapter which cover every aspect of the topic. The number of questions are such that students get sufficient practice, without being overwhelmed by the volume of work to be done.
The authors also hope that this book “Fundamentals of Business Mathematics” may prove valuable as a reference book for certificate (intermediate) level management students of other universities Mathematics is one of the most commonly used tools of solving real life problems and it has become indispensable subject in many field of study.
